Consider this story. There is a farmer at Jerrys Plains called Ian Moore who, despite being blind, grows lucerne amongst other things and is where some of us get our hay from including Anthony Bailey. Ian is being taken to court by a company called Nucoal who have a murky past involving Labor mates and union bosses as well as the interests of the otherwise wholesome Nick Farr-Jones (see the story here http://www.smh.com.au/frontpage/2010/03/18/frontpage.pdf ).
Nucoal wants to develop a coal mine on Ian's land against his wishes, so Nucoal are taking Ian to court employing the full force of the law to barge their way on. Ian has vowed to lock his gate and go to jail if need be. The court hearing is scheduled to be held at Singleton Court House at 10am on the 10th October, Monday week, and we will be there supporting him. Join us if you can.
Newcastle Port is the largest coal export terminal in the world, through which 100 million tonnes of coal is loaded onto ships each year. The port facilities are now being upgraded to handle three times that volume. Where is that extra 200 million tonnes of coal going to come from? There are other stories like that of Ian Moore. This industry is completely out of control and our governments have allowed it to continue.
Please see the following arranged by our friends at Gunnedah, Rosemary Nankivell and James Bishop.
Continuing on from the first televised forum held in Queensland, this is a fantastic opportunity for us all to demonstrate our support for this campaign to the Australian TV audience.
Our friends in Broke are planning to travel to attend the forum in Gunnedah and want to organise a bus so please let me know by return if you want to reserve a seat.
Best wishes,
Sean Gough
